The Neoregelia carolinae 'Tricolor,' also known as the blushing bromeliad or striped blushing bromeliad is native to Southeastern Brazil. It grows in an epiphytic, or rosette-forming, pattern that can reach a diameter of 22" at maturity. The Neoregelia Tricolor can produce light purple to lavender colored blooms in the spring and summer.
Care:
- Light: Bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sun, especially during the hottest part of the day.
- Water: Keep the central cup of the plant filled with water. The water should be rainwater, distilled water, or tap water that has been allowed to sit for 24 hours to remove chlorine. Change the water weekly.
- Soil: A well-draining bromeliad mix. You can make your own by mixing equal parts orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss.
- Humidity: High humidity is preferred, at least 50%. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray with water, or grouping it with other plants.
- Fertilizer: Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a half-strength bromeliad fertilizer.
- Temperature: Warm temperatures, between 65 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
