Light:

• Most cacti love bright, indirect sunlight. Think south-facing windows, but avoid harsh, direct sun that can scorch them.

Watering:

• Less is more! Overwatering is the main enemy of cacti. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

• Frequency depends on factors like pot size, light, and season. Generally, water every 1-2 weeks in summer and less often in winter.

Soil:

• Cacti need well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Commercial cactus mix works well, or you can create your own by mixing regular potting mix with perlite or sand.

Temperature:

• Most cacti prefer warm temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Avoid placing them near drafts, vents, or heaters.

Fertilizer:

• Cacti don't need much fertilizer. Feed them a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer), if at all.

• Leaves: Elliptical-shaped, dark green with prominent reddish-purple markings like peacock feathers. Underside of leaves are burgundy-colored.

• Size: Grows up to 2 feet tall and wide.

• Habit: Folds its leaves upwards at night, resembling praying hands. This is a really neat thing to see, they really do stand up at night!

Care Requirements:

• Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. East or north-facing windows are ideal.

• Water: Likes consistently moist soil but not soggy. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry, then allow excess water to drain. It does not like to dry out and the leaves start to curl when it is too dry. Keep an eye on how quickly the dirt is drying, if it starts to dry out quicker than normal it might be time to replant it to ensure there is plenty of soil for the roots. 

• Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (50-60%). Use a humidifier or group it with other humidity-loving plants. I have had a lot of success keeping mine in my bathroom window, the humidity from the shower has been really good for it. 

• Soil: Well-draining, slightly acidic potting mix. A mix with peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark works well.

• Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes. If you have it in a window, be careful on very cold or warm days that the leaves touching the window are not injured by the extreme temperatures outside.

• Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season with a half-strength, balanced liquid fertilizer.

• Propagation: Can be propagated through division or stem cuttings in spring.
